Sorry for the delay everyone, we have been busy watching our little baby Keira grow into our little toddler Keira.
All the best things of toddlerhood have emerged, the booming vocabularly, the ever so cute mimicking of words, the not so cute mimicking of words you didn’t want them to hear……and of course the independence.
Keira’s vocab may have exploded but some words seem be make a more frequent appearance than others (like “self” for do it myself, or “stop it” said sternly to her brother). She has also quickly learned that a well timed “luv you” can work wonders on Dad, especially if Mom isn’t around to enforce the rules.
As Keira’s language has developed, so has her relationship with Josh, although they still have their moments, more and more they seem be able to play together. Well maybe “play” together is slightly misleading, they are more able to be devious together. Josh, the ever helpful brother frequently gives Keira boosts to climb up on the table, which is quickly followed by a boost to the kitchen counter and a playtime in the kitchen sink. He also is happy to unlock our child safety locks to let Keira into the cupboard to get some raisins, or to open the freezer to get a popsicle.
Keira seems to have quite the little imagination, often calling herself Fiona (Princess Fiona from Shrek) and Josh Prince Charming and Dad Captain Hook (how did I get to be Captain Hook and not Prince Charming?). Sometimes we have difficulty following her little stories, so Josh sets us straight. It is not rare for us to keep getting Keira to repeat herself before Josh finally, in exasperation, tells us what she is saying.
Winter has rekindled Josh’s love of hockey. We had our first visit to the local pond with the family, Keira got toboggan rides around the ice, while Dad, Mom and Josh took turns playing hockey. Josh and Keira have also developed a fascination with Zamboni’s, they often take their trucks and "zamboni" our carpet (perhaps a statement about our infrequent vacuuming schedule?), and no trip to the rink is complete without watching the Zamboni go by. By the looks Keira gets, I don’t think many 18-month olds call zambonis by name!
Of course, most importantly for the kids, Santa arrived since our last blog update. We got our first taste of the tangled web of white lies that parents weave in order to keep Santa delivering presents........Needless to say, Santa is a big hit in our house, regardless of our somewhat unconvincing answers for Josh’s questions. With immediate and extended family gatherings we ended up with 5 consecutive days of Christmas, so the kids got their fill of presents, and continued to ask about Christmas well into February.
Until next time!
